Prepare a family boat trip by checking child-ticket rules, boarding arrangements, suitable safety equipment and the essentials to keep within reach.
For a family ferry journey, the best preparation is specific information about the service you will use. Do not choose solely from a general boat category or a photograph. Ask the operator about your children's ages, the actual boarding arrangement and the facilities that matter to your family before paying.
Child and infant fare rules belong to the selected operator and product. Supply each child's age on the travel date and ask which category applies, what documents are required and whether a separate seat is included. If the journey includes a vehicle transfer, check seating arrangements for that segment too. Do not assume an infant's boat fare answers a question about a seat in a van.
For a return trip with another operator, repeat the check. If a fare category in the search results seems inconsistent with the operator's terms, ask the seller to clarify rather than changing the child's details to obtain a price.
Explain whether you are bringing a stroller and how much luggage you have. Ask about steps, gaps, any beach boarding and where the stroller must be stored. Confirm whether it needs to be folded and whether help is available. A generic image of a pier cannot establish the arrangements for your sailing. Agree which adult will supervise the children and which will manage the tickets and bags.
Ask about seating, shade or indoor space, toilets and drinking-water arrangements on the actual vessel. Confirm suitable life jackets for the children and follow crew instructions on their use. Do not treat a paid seat or the label “family-friendly” as proof of any particular facility. If a child's health or comfort raises concerns, seek advice from an appropriate healthcare professional rather than relying on general travel advice about medication.
Keep bags manageable so that an adult can supervise children while moving through the pier. Follow instructions about where luggage goes; do not block passages to keep everything next to the family.
A tightly timed flight connection or an activity starting immediately after arrival can make a family trip harder. Include the time to reach the pier, report, board and travel onward to the hotel. Confirm what to do if a child is unwell before departure and which change conditions apply. Do not assume illness automatically makes a non-refundable booking refundable.
No universal rule applies. Confirm the category, seat and documents for the service you are buying.
Ask about acceptance, storage and boarding for the specific sailing. Review the baggage policy and use help to resolve unanswered questions before choosing a Phuket–Phi Phi departure.
